Scope
Between 2024 and 2025, Half Bridge Automation restored full operability to 22 obsolete tracker plants, for a total capacity of 25 MW, through its HBA-SUN retrofitting service. The goal of the service is to provide a sustainable and cost-effective alternative by regenerating underperforming plants, thus avoiding decommissioning or the construction of new facilities.
Activities
HBA-SUN includes:
- Upgrade of control and tracking systems;
- Replacement of mechanical components [bolts, slewing rings, joints, bearings, racks, actuators, gearboxes] and electromechanical components [motors, encoders, weather stations, controllers, limit switches, cables, connectors];
- Improved integration with advanced monitoring systems.
Results
Thanks to HBA-SUN, clients were able to fully regenerate their plants in just 40 days, achieving higher efficiency and therefore greater energy production without the need for costly structural interventions. The investment delivered a fast ROI, with immediate productivity gains, supported by dedicated technical assistance throughout every stage of the upgrade. This translated into significant savings in both time and money.
The performance improvements were substantial, with efficiency increases of up to +30% in some plants. The success of the HBA-SUN service was made possible through the collaboration of 7 companies coordinated by HBA, which carried out nearly 3,500 hours of on-site work during the period, creating a true operational excellence network.
