Vista aerea di un grande impianto fotovoltaico a terra realizzato da Altenia

Construction of a Solar Park of 37 MW near Viterbo (Italy)

Area: High voltage, Photovoltaics

Year: 2025

Scope

For a leading international client in the energy sector, Altenia successfully completed the construction of a photovoltaic plant of approximately 37 MW, including a medium-voltage (MV) power line connecting the solar field to the user’s MV substation, and a high/medium-voltage (HV/MV) electrical substation for connection to the national grid operated by Terna.

Activities
The main activities included:

  • Hydraulic works: construction of 8 water regulation and retention basins, in compliance with the hydrogeological constraints of the area.
  • Photovoltaic plant: installation of several hundred trackers, more than 6,000 modules, 8 power stations with 4.4 MW centralized inverters each, construction of the MV collection substation, and installation of a state-of-the-art CCTV system with thermal cameras featuring anti-intrusion functions, along with a SCADA system for remote management.
  • Power line: construction of a 7 km line to connect the PV field to the substation, including open-trench excavation along provincial roads and strategic crossings (road junctions and watercourses) carried out with TOC technology, with variable lengths ranging from 60 to 600 meters.
  • Electrical substation: complete execution of civil works, including rainwater collection systems, and electromechanical installation of all HV components (HV/MV transformers, circuit breakers, disconnectors, CTs, VTs, etc.), RTU-UPDM and SCADA panels for data exchange with the RTN, as well as fiscal metering systems for both generated and injected power.
  • Testing & Commissioning: performance of final tests and commissioning in full compliance with current regulations, client specifications, and Terna’s Grid Code – Annex 68.

Results
Through its EPC activities, Altenia delivered to the client a complete “turnkey” plant, highly efficient and fully compliant with the most advanced technological and regulatory standards.
